Hello and welcome to my blog! I decided to start this blog so you can get to know me a little better and likewise with Me and You.... In here I will talk about my background in music and go a little more in depth about my songs from the lyrics to the music and production. I'll try to add a new blog post as frequently as I can and I'd like you to engage with each blog post too if you can!
This is the beginning of everything music for me and unfortunately it starts on a sad note. My grandmother Joan lived next door to me with my grandfather Charlie. Charlie was heavily involved in music throughout his life. He was a multi instrumentalist and played with different bands and played many gigs around the country. I'd often watch him play piano when I was younger so my interest started to peak then. Charlie got sick towards the end of 2015 and unfortunately passed away at the start of 2016. Other family members and myself took turns staying every night to keep Joan company while Charlie was in hospital and after he passed.
Around Christmas 2015 any night I was staying over I started to teach myself piano with Charlies Casio keyboard. Imagine Dragons have been my favorite artists since 2012 so the first song I thought myself was 'Demons' by them. As soon as I played that through from start to finish for the first time I was hooked and kept learning more songs. I was given this keyboard after Joan's passing the following July of 2016.
In September I took the keyboard up with me in my first year of college in AIT and probably spent more time playing that than actually studying....At this stage I still didn't know a whole lot about music or even know how to play a chord or what a chord was! I was using YouTube to teach myself piano so I was only using single notes to play the melodies of the songs rather than the chords so I was learning all these songs just from muscle memory. I got a Stratocaster electric guitar early December of 2016 and it became my new obsession. I would pick it up every chance I got and would spend 4-8 hours most days learning it. Now thanks to the guitar I was able to go back and teach myself chords on the keyboard which made things a whole lot easier. Now I was nearly equipped to start my goal I set for myself in July. That goal was to write a song in honour of Joan so she could live on through it.
This was just the beginning for me. My first year of introducing myself to music. I will continue with 2017 and beyond in my next post
